Harvesters - KC Community Kitchen

What:

Around this time last year many of you participated in a DI Foundation Volunteer Opportunity at the Kansas City Community Kitchen.  The feedback was resoundingly positive and we’ve had many requests from participants who would like to serve again, as well as from those who were not able to make it last time but wish to get involved.  With that in mind, we have established two dates to send groups to KCCK to volunteer to prep and serve meals to those in need in our community.

For those of you not familiar, Kansas City Community Kitchen “serves hot, nutritious meals daily to all who come with no questions asked” in a restaurant-style setting.  Additionally, KCCK offers a culinary vocational training program “created to help resolve greater Kansas City’s issues of hunger, homelessness & poverty, specifically under-employment and chronic unemployment.”  If you would like to learn more about KCCK’s initiatives to improve our community, I encourage you to visit their website.

Currently, we are planning to send groups on Thursday, 12/14, and Friday 12/15.  The shifts are from 10:30a to 2:30p.  If you are interested in getting involved, please email Ashley Siebert.

When:

12/14 (Thursday)     12/15 (Friday)    10:30a.m. – 2:30p.m.

Benefits:

Kansas City Community Kitchen offers freshly prepared, nutritious meals to those in need each weekday in a restaurant-style setting.  They work with local restauranteurs to develop menus, and offer an on-the-job culinary training program to empower individuals with the skills needed to forge successful careers going forward.  For the full run-down of the program and a really good short video you can visit their site.

Additional Info:

Remember that contributing members to the DI Foundation receive 8 hours of paid volunteer time per year, so if you are not yet a member, now is a great time to sign up and reap the benefits!
