Adam Pruett - Engineers Without Borders

In February 2016, DI’s Design Engineer, Adam Pruett, went on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic with a local group from Engineers Without Borders. The goal for their week-long trip was to close out a project they had previously started to bring fresh drinking water to a local community in the town of La Romana. The group redesigned piping, installed new water filters and fixed the electrical controls to the water pumps. The pumps can now get energy from solar panels or a grid automatically.

“My favorite part of that trip was just seeing the impact we were able to make on the local community,” Pruett said.

“We brought fresh water to a school, a church and the surrounding area, totaling around 800 people.”

The DI Foundation sponsored Pruett’s trip and was able to offer him an extra day of vacation for his time in the Dominican Republic.

Pruett said there might be another trip in the future, but, for now, he and his team check-in with their contacts in La Romana to make sure everything is going well and still functioning.

When asked why DI employees should volunteer, Pruett’s response was immediate.

“Why shouldn’t they?” he replied. “It gives you a chance to be a part of something bigger than yourself.”
