Volunteer Spotlight: Dan Jones

Dan Jones is a busy man. He manages subcontract fabrication, service, and installation for DI as part of the purchasing and estimating team. He researches, recruits, and maintains a nationwide, multi-disciplinary network of artisans, fabricators and installers who partner with DI to create amazing work under deadline pressure.

In his spare time, Dan is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and bandleader with a deep discography of original songs. It doesn’t stop there. Dan has made volunteering an important part of his life. For Dan, volunteering is more than a hobby. It’s a lifelong commitment. Dan joined the DI Foundation and serves as a member of the DI Foundation Advisory Board.

What is the most rewarding aspect of volunteering?
All that doing a little good requires is presence, and breaking out of the everyday routine helps me see things anew. Compared to how complex life can be, sharing time is simple and humbling.

Why should DI employees join the DI Foundation?
It’s great to look at service from a team perspective and join together and knock ideas around. We all want to do good, but it can be overwhelming if we imagine ourselves to be alone in this.

What has been your most memorable moment volunteering thus far?
When I started volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters, I used to worry about whether we were doing the coolest stuff possible with Logan. As it turns out, climbing trees, random rock walls, and rolling down hills was plenty cool and I got to do that again as a grown up.

Our vital work is made possible by people like Dan, who learn how good it can feel to give to worthwhile organizations and lend a helping hand. The DI Foundation is happy to recognize Dan as our volunteer spotlight. Everyone has something special to offer…including you.
